What we do
A retaining wall is holding tonnes of wet soil back. Most of the ones that fail were never drained properly or never engineered in the first place. We build them so you never have to think about them again.
Sloping blocks, driveways, level changes, pool surrounds and backyards you can actually use. We work with homeowners directly and with builders and landscapers who need the wall right before they can carry on.
Site works, car parks, hardstands and boundary walls for commercial and industrial property. Bigger loads, bigger consequences, and the engineering and certification to match.
The wall is the visible part. These are the bits that decide whether it lasts, and they are all in our quotes rather than added on later.
Wall types
Not sure which one you want? Tell us the site and the budget and we will tell you honestly what we would build if it were ours.
The workhorse. Precast concrete sleepers dropped between galvanised steel posts. Strong, straight, will not rot or get eaten, and the most cost-effective wall for most residential jobs.
Same structure, timber grain finish. You get the warmth of a timber wall with none of the rot, termites or replacing it in fifteen years. Popular where the wall is on show.
Core-filled reinforced blockwork. The heavy-duty option for taller walls, corners and anywhere carrying serious load. Can be rendered or painted to finish.
Natural sandstone or basalt boulders. Suits a landscaped look, handles curves and uneven ground well, and blends into a garden rather than fighting it.
Timber, gabion or something else in mind? Ask us. If it is not the right call for your site we will say so.
How it works
Everything is quoted and agreed in writing before a tool comes out of the ute. You will not get a bill at the end that you have to argue about.
Call or send the form with a couple of photos of the site. That is usually enough for us to tell you whether it is straightforward or not.
We come out, look at the ground, the fall and the access, and talk through the options. Free, and no obligation.
Itemised and fixed, including drainage, engineering and the bits people leave out to look cheaper.
Excavation, footings, posts, wall, drainage, backfill. A licensed builder supervising, not just whoever turned up.
Site left tidy, rubbish gone, and the engineering certification handed over where the job needs it.
Why FXNIT
There are two directors and that is the whole company. The bloke who quotes your wall is the bloke who supervises it being built, and the number you ring is answered by someone who can actually help.
The other half of what we do
Alongside the walls, FXNIT delivers building projects for QBuild and Queensland Government departments, a lot of it in school facilities that have to be finished inside the holiday shutdown.
We mention it because it is the reason our retaining walls come with paperwork, certification and a supervisor who turns up. Government work does not let you cut corners, and that habit does not switch off when we are in someone's back yard.

Between the two of us and a pool of subcontractors we have used for years, we cover carpentry, plastering, painting, tiling, plumbing, demolition and excavation. So there is a fair bit we can take on. "One team, every trade" is not just something we put on the ute.
What we will not do is say yes to everything just to win the work. So ask us. If it suits us and we can do it properly, we will quote it. If it does not, we will tell you straight and point you at someone who does it well.

Where a wall needs engineering, we organise it and hand over the certification. You are not left chasing an engineer yourself.

Who you deal with
Director. Building supervisor
Holds the building supervisor's licence, does the quoting and supervises the work. Also a qualified electrician, so he reads a job across trades rather than just his own.
Director. Plasterer and carpenter
On the tools and on site. Brett is the hands-on half of the business, running the physical work and keeping the standard where it needs to be.
That is deliberate. A two-person company means nothing gets lost between the quote and the build.

No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. For anything beyond a small wall we will come out and look at the site first, which is also free.
As a rule of thumb, taller walls and any wall carrying extra load, like a driveway or a structure above it, need engineering and building approval. Rather than guess from a photo, we will tell you exactly what your wall needs when we look at the site, and we organise the engineering if it is required.
Because it is the single most common reason walls fail. Water builds up behind the wall and the pressure pushes it over. Every wall we build gets ag drain, gravel backfill and geofabric, and it is in the quote rather than an extra.
Concrete sleeper suits most residential jobs on price and strength. Timber-look sleepers cost a bit more and look better where the wall is on show. Besser block handles taller walls and heavy loads. Rock walls suit a landscaped, natural look. We will tell you what we would build if it were our place.
It depends on length, height, access and whether it needs engineering. A straightforward residential wall is usually a matter of days once we start. We will give you a realistic timeframe with the quote, not an optimistic one.
Yes, and it is a lot of what we do. Old timber walls rot and lean. We take the old one out and put in a concrete sleeper or block wall that will not need doing again.
